After my last run-in with a password store application for the iPhone I wasn't expecting to be reviewing another one so soon, but when eWallet popped up on the App Store I couldn't resist.

Having used eWallet before during an ill advised foray into the Windows Mobile world, I had high hopes for the iPhone version.

Read on to see if Iliumsoft have done a good job of integrating their application into the iPhone user interface.

First impressions are good, the application launches just like an internal application, presenting a nice clean interface without first going through an annoying splash screen.

Helpfully it comes pre-loaded with a set of demo entries that include a getting started guide and some samples.

The guide leads you into locking your data with a password and this leads me to my first complaint, this is implemented in the same way as the previously reviewed SplashID, the standard iPhone keyboard is used for password entry and I am convinced that this is the wrong choice, read my SplashID review for why.

Once you are past the password screen though the program is something of a revelation, the user interface is excellent.

Using a card metaphor for storage everything looks pretty and is extremely customisable, you can for example have different colours for each entry.

More importantly, the interface is consistent throughout the entire application, the edit buttons all work in the same way and are in the same place.

There are a couple of oddities, each card has a name which is fine, but most of them have a title as well, as far as I can see they are the same thing. If the title defaulted to the card name then it wouldn't be a problem but it doesn't. The card name also defaults to the text "card name" which you have to clear before entering your own text, not the end of the world but an another unnecessary keypress.

On the whole the interface is a success though, nice and clear with each entry easy to read and extra detail only a nicely animated flip screen away.

There are some important features missing, there are currently no search or password generation functions and it desperately needs a PC and Mac application to sync with (Illiumsoft confirm that both are coming, the PC version will be first).

The final verdict:- well I can tell you that SplashID is currently sitting on my iPhone with nothing but test data in it, whereas I have started putting all my information into eWallet, defintely recommended.
